Mary O. Fagan

“A complex and complete world…an epic fantasy tome that keeps readers invested.” Kirkus Reviews

“Master raconteur, Fagan draws you into the antediluvian land of Ammanon with a solid character driven storyline that will combine the genre of Tolkien’s The Hobbit and Lord of Rings with the days of ancient Rome.” Skirt! Magazine

Ammanon is a 5-part series that VerveStar is promoting and publishing, beginning with Book I The Prophecy.  The first run will be available in hardcover with dust jacket and plans for feature film development are underway.

AMMANON Book I – The Prophecy

Ammanon, an empire spanning half the known world, prospers under the rule of Emperor Galan. He is a fearsome warrior, great of stature and quick of mind; but he is about to face a different sort of enemy.  The threat arises in the tiny sovereign state of Partha. Sly and prideful King Niklos sets out to prove he can defeat mighty Ammanon with cleverness and intellect alone.

Meanwhile, an unsuspecting Emperor Galan has all but forgotten a prophecy made early in his youth: that in the seventh month of the seventh year of his reign a woman would come to his side to save Ammanon from peril.   Now the time of fulfillment is past, and Galan is receiving alarms from a translator who has uncovered a plot to assassinate him. Where is this woman of the prophecy?   The woman is the translator, Eydain. When they finally meet, the lonely emperor finds that Eydain knows nothing of the prophecy and would rather run than wed. Bitterly he forces her to marry as his captive.   The two now struggle with each other as well as the elusive King Niklos, who will stop at nothing to overthrow the great Galan. With so much against them, can Galan and Eydain fulfill the prophecy or will Ammanon be destroyed?

To learn more about Ammanon and the rest of the series, check out the summaries of the next 4 books  -

Book Two – The Parthan Plot

Confrontation is imminent….The Parthan assassins purporting to be a trade delegation are on their way. General Toland, the commander of the Ammanon’s army, is ready. Enemy couriers have been captured, spies caught, covert skirmishes fought, and unexpected allies have come forth. Toland has laid a trap for the Parthan assassins right in the great banquet hall of the palace. There is little doubt the might of Ammanon will prevail.

But it seems they have forgotten something: the Prophecy. Long ago it named Eydain as the key to victory, but what can she do as the emperor’s captive bride? Will she escape her formidable guards in time to fulfill her destiny? And after all she has suffered, will she want to?

Book Three – The Deliverance

With King Niklos and his scheming minions successfully dispatched, a prosperous peace begins. But Emperor Galan continues to deal with his tumultuous marriage as Eydain bitterly fights her captivity. Finally it boils over to a shattering show-down.

Then a desperate messenger arrives from Ez’Elonia, native land of High Priest Azzariah. It is a plea for aid from King Haben as marauders threaten his borders.

Determined to deliver Ez’Elonia from its enemies before the ancient priest dies, Galan rides to war with ten thousand battle-ready troops – and Eydain to serve as translator. But after a savage battle with marauders, Galan is betrayed by the lustful King Haben. Again the emperor again finds he must guard this rare woman with his life, for within her lies the future of Ammanon.

Back home in Ephaeleon, Royal Mother Tsophyra discovers a stunning secret that could change the course of history.

Book Four – The Journey

Emperor Galan and General Toland proudly see Pherron, the general’s son, off to mandatory military training. Before the term is complete, he receives the gift of prophecy that calls him to a mission of discovery and ministry throughout the empire and beyond.

During a respite in Ephaeleon, Pherron not only learns the dread secret Tsophyra has been guarding, he receives a vision of enemy hordes pressing toward Ammanon’s remote northern border.  He joins his father and the emperor in a crushing war that will require the entire might of Ammanon to win.

Book Five – The Souls of Many

The war has left Ammanon in disarray.  Foreign powers, aided by corrupt Ephaeleon merchants, seek opportunity in the weakened empire.  In these dark times the seed of evil takes root.

It is Pherron the Prophet who sees the omens.  He is challenged to take up the staggering task of uniting all mortals against things seen and unseen; and this he must do in the face of wars and pestilence.  It is a battle the warrior prophet sees no chance of winning.  His only hope comes from the most unexpected sources.

The conclusion is both transcendent and bitter sweet.
